ABOUT US

The EU-funded Social Inclusion for Persons with Mental Disabilities Project was initiated after the WHO Regional Director for Europe and the Turkish Contracting Authority signed the agreement in July 2018.

​

The Project to be implemented with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Family and Social Services (MoFSS), and WHO, aims to contribute to the social inclusion of persons with mental disabilities through the provision of community-based support services of the Turkish Government.

Project activities, addressing the capacity building needs of public professionals for disability and mental health services, aims the following:

  • Support the development, planning, implementation, and regulation of policies for service development for persons with mental disabilities, using the best evidence-based methods,

  • Strengthen and support policy development in the field of mental disabilities,

  • Develop monitoring standards, improve the proficiency of service providers, and ensure an effective collaboration,

  • Support the legislation review processes of MoH and MoFSS,

  • Develop training modules through an individual-centered approach to create a competent workforce that offers evidence-based treatment methods in the care of persons with mental disabilities.

This project follows the footsteps of the previous Social Inclusion for Persons with Mental Disabilities Project, also completed with EU funding, and is in line with the commitments of Government of Türkiye to improve the services for persons with mental disabilities and EU strategic action directives on disability and mental health.

Aim

To contribute to the activities of the Government of the Republic of Türkiye towards social inclusion of persons with mental disabilities through the provision of community-based support services.

Goal

To support the capacity building activities carried out by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Family and Social Services to enable persons with mental disabilities to socialize and provide them with quality services.

Target Outputs

  • ​The community-based care service model for persons with mental disabilities is in force and is being implemented nationwide.

  • The works of policy development, planning, implementation, and regulations for persons with mental disabilities are carried out based on scientific evidence.

  • Training modules that include an individual-centered approach are used for developing a competent workforce that provides evidence-based treatment methods while providing care for the persons with mental disabilities.
